Privacy Policy.

Privacy-first and offline-first by design. Nothing you do inside LectureLock ever leaves your machine.

01

Introduction & Core Philosophy

This Privacy Policy governs your use of the LectureLock Windows desktop application and the associated LectureLock anti-pause Chrome extension. Because our application is designed to enforce strict study discipline, it requires deep interaction with your Windows operating system. However, our core philosophy is simple: your computer is your domain, and your data is your property. We have built this software with a privacy-first, offline-first architecture.

02

Zero Data Collection Policy

Unlike modern software that constantly phones home, LectureLock does not collect, transmit, upload or sell your personal data. Period.

  • We do not collect Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • We do not track your browsing history or website activity.
  • We do not log your keystrokes or record your screen.
  • We do not use telemetry to track how often you use the app.
03

System-Level Access & Permissions Explained

To function as a strict focus enforcer, the LectureLock desktop app requests elevated privileges and interacts directly with the Windows API. Here is exactly why we need this access and what we do with it:

  • Window management: we monitor active windows to ensure your whitelisted educational apps remain in the foreground. If a non-whitelisted app is opened, LectureLock forcefully minimizes it. This requires reading the titles of open windows. This data is processed instantaneously in memory and is never saved to a file or sent over the internet.
  • Input interception: in Strict Mode we intercept certain keyboard shortcuts (like Alt+Tab or the Windows key) to prevent you from escaping your study session, via low-level keyboard hooks. We do not act as a keylogger. The hook only checks for specific escape sequences and ignores all normal typing.
  • Topmost enforcement: the application forces your lecture window to remain the topmost application on your screen to simulate a physical classroom environment.
04

Chrome Extension Operations

The LectureLock Chrome extension is a companion tool. It requests permissions to run specifically on educational domains (like pw.live) to prevent video players from automatically pausing when you take notes.

To achieve this, the extension uses a localhost bridge (http://localhost:52345) to communicate directly with the LectureLock desktop app running on your machine. This communication is strictly local and never routes through an external server. The extension only asks the desktop app: “Is a strict session currently active?”

05

Third-Party Services

LectureLock operates entirely offline. We do not embed third-party analytics trackers, advertising SDKs or remote crash reporters into the desktop application.

06

Security

Because no data leaves your machine, the security of your data relies on the security of your own Windows environment. We strongly recommend keeping your operating system and antivirus software up to date.

07

Changes to This Policy

If we ever update LectureLock to include cloud-based features (such as syncing your study stats across devices), we will update this Privacy Policy and explicitly ask for your opt-in consent before collecting any data. Until then, the software remains completely offline and private.
